Engine Oil with Additive? & Auto Transmission Fluid
« on: December 01, 2014, 15:16:39 »
Over the weekend I did a winter oil change from Elf Retro2 20W50 oil to a Liqui Moly 15W40  Touring High Tech mineral oil for high mileage cars.
I made an enquiry with Liqui Moly’s technical department in Germany regarding the most suitable oil and Auto Transmission Fluid for my 1971 280SL.

They promptly replied within an hour of my enquiry, and I thought the information is worth sharing here.

I'm also interested to hear views regarding their suggestion of the Oil Additive :

Dear Mr. Kirkinis,
thank you very much for contacting us and your interest in our LIQUI MOLY products.

The LIQUI MOLY TOURING HIGH TECH 15W-40 is the ideal choice for your classic Mercedes 280 SL.
It exceeds the given oil specifications and is still "mild" enough for the used materials inside the oil circle.

If you want to increase the protection of your engine we recommend you to add a solid lubricant like MoS2 OIL ADDITIVE into the engine oil. This will bring you more benefit comparing a chemical friction modifier as Molygen is one.

The LIQUI MOLY TOP TEC ATF 1100 is the suitable lubricant for the automatic gearbox unit because it meets the given specification Type A / Suffix A
( TASA ).

Attached you´ll find the product informations :

We hope we could help you with our informations. Should you have further questions regarding our products we would be very pleased to get contacted

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best regards

Hi,
I'am using Liqui Moly 15W40 Touring High Tech since years but without additive, also ATF 1100. I think this motor oil additive isn't necessary. I'am using the MoS2-additive for the rear axle as I do it for more than 30 years in my Moto Guzzi motor bike where it is prescribed by Moto Guzzi.

Thanks for the feedback WRe.
Do you use the Liqui Moly 15W40 oil year round?

Best,
Mike
