Water pump and shaft

Folks,
I searched in the database but could not find a definite answer, and the SLS parts base and Niemoeller catalog have me wondering too...

Looks like the water pump shaft bearings are worn out. The ventilator wobbles out of center and runs noisily.
I have looked up the water pump for the SL 230 (no viscous clutch) at the SLS page for 290 Euros, while Niemoeller quotes it for 60 Euros. How does that work - they usually see eye to eye on most prices?

My Haynes tells me I have to replace pump and shaft at once. No repairing could be done. However, the Niemoeller catalog has the pump bearings with a part number for sale... Am I missing something?

I am totally confused now - any kind of input where to take it from here would be much appreciated.

Mercedes do an exchange waterpump which is quite reasonably priced.

I would assume the 60 euro part is rebuilt and you have to turn yours in for exchange.  The 290 euro part is probably a brand new part.  My understanding is that almost all parts on our cars are rebuildable (fuel pump, FI pump, water pump, distributor, etc.).  I suggest you call the suppliers and ask.  You can learn a lot from speaking with them about details of their parts and their business.

Haynes recommend changing the whole pump because the early 113 pumps required owner interval lubrication .
 These pumps  were later replaced  with sealed bearings and no longer needed lubing, so the newer units are used as replacement.
 There were 3 different pump confiquratuions
 Long shaft, short shaft, and both 3 bolt and 4 bolt fan hubs.
 Your should be long shaft, 3 bolt, I believe.
 The US price for all models runs around $60 US...

Thanks everybody for not making it sound like I have to spend 300+ Euros on a new pump...
Guess I will do the whole coolant replacement tour while I am at it...
