Some people don't know the value of our cars

I think the licence plate makes the right statement "SAD" sad indeed.

that ... or

The owner is having some fun before a complete paint job. What do you think? Now just don't look and go away, tell us why you think! :)

PS. I came across this photos on Facebook, posted at the Mercedes-Benz SL-Club Pagode (German site), just had to share it with you fellows.

I may be the only one --- but --- I like it.  I like the fun of it!  Probably a very jolly owner to match the car.

I like it also. Well, not this particular execution but the idea. I've asked my artist wife to consider doing a hood like this. It is of course a copy of the BMW Art Cars (Warhol, Hockney, Lichtenstein):

I would say this is vinyl wrap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jfgb9uv0P8

It can be removed quite easily: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoKVuiE9WCM

Nice concept if one wants to go crazy with car decoration without damaging the paint underneath!

Perhaps an original Calder canvas?  I like it as well .

I don't believe it is Calder but it is definitely a wrap, and I like it too.  Nice to see one done for non-commercial purposes.

Only the glove box visible on one of the pictures tell that originally it was either white or light blue. I would like to see it with the hard top, which - if the hub cups are correctly done - should sport the same pattern :)

BTW: let me start the usual tour of remarks :):
bumpers are Europeanised and the mirror looks incorrect

Well I'm jealous that some one has the disposable income to customize the car and then turn it back to normal.

I would say that the body color is white.  you can see white paint under the front bumpers, the body wall between the battery and the grill and around the 280SL badge on the trunk.
The car has a strange mix,  German plates, US headlights and side lights, head rests, but no bumper extensions, or right side mirror.
