Pagoda World 16
« on: February 24, 2015, 19:59:44 »
Pagoda World, the magazine, issue number 16 is on its way to Full Members.  I've just finished reviewing it and we have another winner!  Thanks to Waqas for putting together another colorful, and in some respects sexy, edition of our collectible magazine.  This issue includes a great story with photos of the meeting at Goodwood last year, an amazingly detailed technical article that is so jam-packed with detail that it will take two more issues to publish it all, and a vintage pictorial that will make you linger over the beauty in a Pagoda.

Thanks to Jon Bernardi, Martjin Sjerps, and James Lester for making those of us who missed Goodwood just so darn jealous.

Pagoda World is only available to Full Members.  If you sign up to support our club, you'll not only get this edition, you'll also get the 50 Year commemorative edition, while the supply lasts.

Enjoy the Read!

Is Pagoda World provided in hard copy?  The post above regarding the commemorative edition appears to suggest so.  (I don't think I have ever received a hardcopy (full member).

Hello Harry,

Yes it is issued in hard copy. You have registered on May 27, 2012 and by now should have recieved several issues of the Pagoda World Magazine. Please check you Profile and Contact information it must be up to date for you to recieve the Magazine. I think you should have received in the past Issue 14, December 2012 and issue 15 the 50 Anniversary issue. Also issue 16 should now be on the way to you provided your contact information is up to date.

BTW you can order back issues (I have when I first joined). Send an e-mail to the Editor Waqas He can check into this for you.

You find his e-mail here ---> http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=11537.0

Hi Stan,

I had in the past week a lot of reading time (while waiting for other events to take place). I went thru my issues 11 to 15 and just wanted to mention how much I enjoyed reading your story in issue 15 The Road to Willington (9th to 11th August 2013). Well done! I can't wait for your story in issue 16 :)

Just got my Pagoda World Issue 16 here in still cold Canada (still one meter of snow on the ground), Thank you !

Thank you all for writing in and making it our magazine! Always something special to read. Remember, it is your magazine so send in that special story about your car, it will look great in your magazine.

Thank you Waqas for the excellent technical paper on the 230 SL from Dipl-Ing. Rudolf Uhlenhaut great stuff!

PS. To Stan, Great Center Fold, I think I'll have it scanned and make a wall poster for my garage, my naighbour is a Jaguar nut and always sends me e-mails with pretty girls posing on Jag's. Your Centre Fold will blow him away :)

As well as learning a bit of technical stuff from the 230 SL (Rudolf Uhlenhaut) paper what I also got from the article was a sense of the underlying advantages but also difficulties Mercedes Benz had in developing the 230 from the 300 & 190.

On the one hand they had great cars in the 300 & 190 on which to design an even better car. However, as they had decided to go from two SL's to just one they needed to "blend" these two different cars together and add some modernity. This obviously led to many comprises. The fact that the Pagoda turned out so good means that they got it right.

I have never owned or driven a 300 nor 190.

I question I have is which one do you think the Pagoda more closely follows or does it not follow either?

Also I just got my copy in Poland on Wednesday, which means that remote location are also covered fine :)

As usual, each issue is a great achievement and I enjoyed reading each of the articles.

I am obviously shocked and devastated by the center fold pictures. Besides, I do not know what R-D was referring to in his message. No idea how I could be concerned  ;D

Very sincere congratulations to every person that contributed!!!

I would, Rolf--Canada will welcome me as already pointed out. It's getting back and dealing with my own nasty ICE agents at the border that would ruin the entire experience...

Thanks Rolf.  I will pursue the previous issues that I didn't receive.  I did check contact information and it looks good.  I did receive the current issue and I am confident that I haven't received any prior.  By the way - there's an "oops" in the current issue.  There's a photo on the top left corner of one page with a caption that highlights one of only two Lancaster bombers still flying, being escorted by P-51 Mustangs.  Those are instead Spitfires (British fighter planes) escorting the Lancaster.  What a fantastic photo though!  It would have been a real treat to get to see them and hear them!!  The issue is fantastic and I can't wait to look through it great detail!
