Radio Panel Questions

I am re-assembling the dashboard on my '64 230sl.  The radio panel is attached to the dash with two screws according to other posts on this website.  What size and type of screws?  The holes on the panel look pretty large.  Also, there is a long, small, horizontal oval that is cut into the panel below the radio cutout that sits behind the dash trim pad -- what is that for?

I use 2 philips head screws, but would I swear that those were there from the factory? No! I too have wondered about that space cut out of the plate. It looks like you could fit a courtesy light in there, but since it would be next to the original one. I could not see that purpose. Anyone has a clue?

Take a look at the "GrandPrix Installation Parts" picture  (http://www.sl113.org/wiki/Electrical/Radio)
and you'll find that the two screws that hold the radio panel to the dash are DIN 981 lens head sheet metal screws 4.8 x 16 mm plus two DIN 6797 toothed washer with 5.1mm ID.
However, I have never seen a toothed washer there. The spare parts list shows that the radio delete plate only needed the two sheet metal screws but no washer.

As to the horizontal half circle cut out my interpretation is that it aids in removing the radio. Behind this cut out is a dimple in the dash that allows you to put your fingers behind the panel and pull it outward.
