After FASHION WEEK in New York, the SL is (still) in fashion...
In this weekend's New York Times Style Magazine (received this morning for those who receive it at home, in kiosk tomorrow with the whole sunday Times) you will find on page 116 (they missed the page 113...!) the Talk of this week:
An article called "Topless Club" with a beautifull black and white picture (what movie is it from??) of a white 230 Sl with an early 60's Paris license plate.
It starts with: "The Mercedes SL is still racy after all these years. Steve Kurutz - who wrote the article - takes the top down on the ultimate Hollywood car."
In substance, the article describes how the Sl has always been a category of its own, "the SL convertible was the epitome of being flashy and classy", how it has been sexy but not aggressive, the combination of elegance, appeal, sport and comfort.
"It wasn't until the company introduced the boxier, roomier "Pagoda"-roof version in 1963 that the model took off.
No longer a pure sports car, the SL offered the kinds of genteel comforts that made it de rigueur among the country-club set".
"The model sexy past has contributed to its reputation as a car for the unattached - the eternal gigolo, if you will."
