Subframe bushings: W113-specific or W108 would be okay?
« on: April 12, 2015, 02:07:21 »
I thought I got a deal on the front subframe bushings (bought w108 set), now heard some rumors that the w108 may not be the same as w113 set.
The W108 set does not have the metal plate which screws with four bolts on the top, but is there anything else?
Height of the rubber bushing?

This has been discussed in a few forum postings in the past (search for "subframe mount plate"). The conclusion is that the two are the same, apart from the plates that come with the W113 kit. See for example http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=14056.msg95515#msg95515

There's also some good postings on actually doing the job. I did it last year and those postings came in very handy.

Yes, the mounts themselves are exactly the same.  Save your original four mounting bolts and plate for re-use. The metal plate originally had a thin rubber buffer adhered to the inside of it. Not critical if it is bad, improvise. The rubber buffer prevents metal to metal impact between the center sub-frame bolt-head and the metal plate. This can only occur under the most extreme road  conditions, or when the sub-frame mounts have failed.
