Mysterious Object Needs to be Identified
« on: April 21, 2015, 01:48:47 »
When I removed the radio and the clock from 67 230 SL dash, a mysterious object fell down from behind the cigarette lighter/blower switch. When I looked at the configuration of what is attached to the dash, I cannot find any of the instruments match this object. Does anyone recognize this mysterious object?? Photo attached

The object is part of the heater control unit with the tiny light bulbs that illuminate the levers.
take a look here at the photos:

Alfred: Thank you for your help. I can see the function of the transparent plastic housing, it is for lighting.

It can also be used as a shot glass, to administer schnapps or another anaesthetic required while putting your hands behind that tiny dash. :D

Mike,
be careful, the kind of liquid that you fancy would dissolve the plastic!  ;D

As a chemist, I can tell you that the plastic is made from polycarbonate which is plexiglass. Schnapps will dissolve this kind of plastic, but not immediately, it may take sometime. I better drink it quickly in the femto second time frame before some of the polycarbonate will go down the throat.  LOL
