The surprises you find at restoration

They usually aren't good and that is exactly the case with my car!  Just got an update from the restoration shop.  Most interesting is the golf ball sized hole in the nose and the amount of rust on the fender supports.  Oh, not to mention the tar like goop some previous "experts" caked all over the interior of the doors.  What a mess!  Pics attached.  At least I will have the peace of mind that new bits equal no rust!    New nose, fenders, supports and headlamp buckets have arrived.

Now I'm at the point of struggling with color choice.  Originally it was tobacco brown.  Most recently it was a variation of light ivory with a little too much of a yellow hue.  Classic dilemma of not being able to decide whether to go back original or pick something else.  The interior will remain cognac.

When it comes to color choice, it is the matter of taste, unless of course you plan to go back to original, which could potentially mean replacing the interior as well. I am in the same shoes right now, and it will come down to how pretty my car would look like with off-white paint and turquoise interior vs. any other combo. I believe i will opt for red/black, since black interior is relatively more forgiving with dust, dirt, stains etc.

Question: did you find any issues with the rotten cross-member wings, those underneath the fenders? Mine are all rusty and i could not locate them new.

tobacco is a soft resale color.  Did you look at non-metallic anthracite?

That was my concern with going back to Tobacco.  I like the anthracite, light ivory and dark green and think they may have a better resale attraction. I'm liking the anthracite a lot, but not sure how well it goes with cognac interior.  I'm not sure if it was an original color combination.  It is not listed under the "recommended" color code combinations in the Tech Manual.

Anthracite goes great with Cognac.

The recomendations were for the salesmen.  I have seen many combos that are not on that list.

Congnac is a fairly neutral colour so it should go with just about anything.

I use to have tobacco brown - NO MORE!

I change to Anthracite metallic and it goes great with Cognac interior.

I was going to do a dark maroon top (ops) it was not on the color list so I wnet Black Soft Top.

I have had more compliments on the color combo. (the misses loves it  )

I don't think that part is available any more. I thought you were reffering to a different part. I think you can get the outer ends of the crossmember which would be easier than making them, although that could be done.

To me - it's all about the colour......Here's my 2c worth :

I quite like Tobacco Brown but with a different interior (Parchment perhaps?).

My #1 choice would be Anthracite with Cognac interior. #2 choice would be Grey Blue DB906 with Cognac (Just look at JamesL's car)

Not that I'm suggesting you do this, but white is the most popular colour right now in terms of resale.
