Oil cooler question
« on: April 26, 2015, 23:46:27 »
I changed the oil in my 1967 250sl for the first time. I was confused about draining the oil cooler. I cracked open the 19mm bolt on the bottom of the oil cooler and coolent came out. I retightened the the bolt and now it is dripping.
1) Is the small brass(?) washer that came with the oil filter kit for that bolt?
2) can you drain the oil out of the oil cooler and if so where is the drain plug?

Thanks
Rich

There is a drain plug on the oil cooler but it's not for oil as you found out. Drain your oil in the normal fashion at the oil pan and use a new O-ring on the filter canister and a new copper seal on the drain plug. You may need to drain your coolant so you can replace the leaking seal on the oil cooler.
