Can someone explain what the Sunday 'Judging' event is all about... is this based on the MBCA 'Preservation Class' criteria? Who's judging and what are they judging for, specifically?

I think it should just be the Presidents Pick and no questions entered into. That way it is not limited to any 'Preservation Class’ criteria and could go it a barn find, a modified, a restored or an original car.

Otherwias there will be too many nit pickings going on with too many ‘experts’ and one of the reasons I and many others in the past have somewhat given up on the local MBC shows.

Garry,
I have a hunch it is the other way around. We are going to judge the judges' knowledge of our cars!  ;D

Hi All,

A few words on 2015 PUB judging for those of you interested in having your car judged. There will be three levels of judging, the Drivers/Street category, the Mercedes Benz Preservation category and a People’s Choice, subject to change based on participation and if required.

We have three judges who are volunteering their time, and possibly a fourth, depending on the final number of cars participating.  All three judges have previous judging experience, all own Pagoda’s, some own multiple Pagodas. One of the judges, teaches judging school, another is an editor for the Star Magazine, and one a member of this board.  We feel they are all highly qualified to judge.  Any arguments with any judge will disqualify your car, period.

Street/Drivers Category

This will not be a Pebble Beach or Amelia Island concourse level judging.
Since the vast majority of cars attending PUB will be driven hundreds and in some cases thousands of miles, a few blades of grass in a tire or a few bugs on the grill will not affect your score, no need to fuss about these type of things.  This category is intended to let you know what it will take to get your car to the next level, possibly concourse level.

Preservation Category

This is meant for cars that are 85%-90% all original, drivable, and have been well cared for over the years, no major restorations, like complete new paint. If you meet certain criteria in this category you will receive an award from MB.  You must be a MBUSA member to participate in this category.   One of our judges was instrumental in creating this category for MB.

People’s Choice Category

This category will have several attendees volunteer to look at cars in a fun way, picking such things as, Car I would most like to take home,  Car with the most potential, Best exterior color,,,

Once you have paid the judging fee, you can participate in as many categories as you wish, no additional cost.   There will be awards given for each category.

Hope this helps clarify things, and sorry for the delay.

A few blades of grass will be allowed, but seven or eight.......then we may have to have a serious discussion about that! LOL!

I fully concur with my esteemed colleague Alex in his description about what the intent and goal of the event is all about.

(FYI - yes I will be one of the judges).

Hi All,

As we are getting closer to 2015 PUB, we need to start getting a better idea of how many people will be attending.  If you are considering coming, please get your registration form filled out and submitted, so we can start making final preparations.   Please do not post on this or any other thread, email, or pm indicating you will be attending, only submitted registration forms will be considered as an official attendee.

Thank You,
Alex

Hello James,

PUB tends to be a less-formal but information packed week-end. Friday we will have a gathering and Pizza Party later in the evening. People begin arriving at all different times. Some are even coming in as early as Wednesday.  The tech session and presentation will begin on Saturday morning around 9:00 am both days. Activities on Sunday (photo shoot) and sessions also begin around 9:00 am.  Saturday we break-off around 5:30 pm or 6:00 pm to get ready for dinner. Sunday goes into the afternoon again with some informal individual help and some more, less formal information. Some leave for home on Sunday while others will stay over. The shop in Blacklick is open to all as a home-base days before and after the actual event dates. Everyone is welcome anytime.  Some spend an extra day or two for visiting some tourist spots. There are many historical and local points of interest near by. We will be providing some information on these places. There are some excellent and unique shopping locations near-by also.

We will have a more defined schedule in a few days. Remember there will be Vendors ( Bud's, SL  Autohaus, possibly K&K etc) with products and parts at PUB.  We will also have the popular parts swap-meet again, so bring something to sell or trade if you like. There will be informal periods during the tech session so individuals can ask questions, or deal with their own needs and problems. There are plenty of hands-on visual aids.  Engines , transmissions, diffs, etc. Dress casual, the shop is not high tech. September evenings in Ohio can be cool (55-75 degrees F).  The best anywhere and an exceptional array of W113 experts will be on hand this year. No one should go away with any unanswered questions! The best part of the event is all the beautiful Pagodas and wonderful people. Fasten your seat belts the excitement begins soon!

Hi Joe,

Can you post here the address for the Pub where the Pizza gardening will be on Friday evening?

Unless it is within near your place, I like to make sure my GPS will guide me there :) or I need to make a hard copy from Google maps.

Thanks

Alfred .... Alfred .... Alfred  ;D  ;D  ;D

It was a legitimate question ... I thought Pizza and Beer was at a local pub (I may have mis-read it some place), however, Joe since made it clear via e-mail that the gathering of Pizza and beer would be at his place.

I just wanted to make sure you don't drink all the beer before I arrive hehehehe

Edit ... I mentioned beer three times, that was the plan anyway, one time the program decided to make it bear, naturally as o Good original German I never ever tasted bear only beer so I had to change it. Thanks Jonny B for brining it to my attention and being our spell checker :)

Very funny Jonny,

Okay, I will look after the bear if you promise to look after the pubs :)

Or is momma bear telling the kids "here comes the Pagoda caravan kids, now remember I will look after this Dieter fellow you kids look after this Jonny B fellow" hehehe

To be serious for a moment, I may not make it to PUB after all ... Just spend 5 Hours in Emergencey with my wife, they kept there in hospital in a total isolation room (lung infection etc. etc.). Unless they give her back to me by Thursday I  won't be going anywhere.

Edit ... Added the picture hahaha

Arrived at the Springhill Marriott! Trailered the 280, because of the rough running issues. Didn't want to take the chance of getting stuck on the way.
