Sl280 fuel injection pump on a 1966 sl230. Will it work?

Hi my name is Federico, im from San Jose, Costa Rica. My uncle owns a 1966 sl230, the fuel injection pump isn't working. We were trying to find some who fix it, but we only found options in Germany and USA. But we are not sure they are going to accept the pump. So after some research we were wondering if a sl280 fuel injection pump will work. Or maybe someone in this forum might know about someone who sell one of this pumps.

Not from my expirience. Gasoline injection pumps are very different from diesel pumps.

Sorry to disagree: Bosch FI pumps of this period are very similar to diesel injection pumps.Do a search on the web ("Bosch injection pump") , and you'll see by yourself...

I'd disagree on this (may God help me!). The fundamentals are identical. So, time spent searching for a place that will deal with niche 113 FI pumps is time not well spent. Time spent searching for folk who can work on old fashioned FI pumps - diesel or petrol - would be time spent on a productive mission. There is v little difference. It's just that calls to modern mechanics are unlikely to prove fruitful. This is old guy territory. The OP needs to be looking at folk who work on old style diesel pumps.

I'm very surprised you feel there's a difference here. The difference is minimal on these engines.

Black Forest in Wisconsin has done a premier job for myself.

They also just finished another one for a friends - excellent work.

They specialize in W113 pumps. I would gladly pay a little extra for someone that can do the correct job the first time.
They are not easy to install.  It helps to have monkey hands to get around the corners.

I'd agree fully that it's important to employ someone who knows what they're doing.

On the install, there's a lot of really good advice on the site about the how to, and the pitfalls, like how to get the timing right. Really important stuff.

That said, I don't think the install is terribly difficult and shouldn't put anyone off doing it. I'd say it's just about attention to detail. The BBB has the process down to a T and the advice on the site will make the process even easier. (I've done it, and if I can do it... !).

A gasoline IP may look like a diesel IP but that means next to nothing in the real world of pump rebuilding. If you really believe this, then take your IP to any good diesel place and ask them to go through your pump.
 Once you do this get back to us with:

a) that they would even tell you they could do it
b) that they did it at all
c) the results of this tragic FU


You need the right parts, the right test plan, the right equipment, and lots of expirience to do it


   And frankly speaking, I can't even imagine anyone here silly enough to think otherwise.

My experience is similar to what Dan Caron has mentioned.

Exact similar scenario. Wasted 2 months. Finally shipped the pump to Fairchild in California and got it fixed. Reasonable costs aside from the courier charges.
