I had a complete look at the advertised write up and photographs .... Here is what I think ....

-The fellow found an average car in the U.S.
-I don't think he paid more then $50- US for it
-comparing his sugar coated write up with photos
I think he is daydreaming of anyone paying that price.
-If anyone pays more then $100- for this car h/she is "Nuts"
-it wil never ever sell for $394K US or $485K Canadian. LOL

-I think that many of our cars would put his car to shame!

What do you fellows think?.

PS. fine it is a proven one owner car that kept a record and all documents etc. Who cares for all that paper work, the car is the object not the paperwork. Fine it is nice to have all that, however, is it worth that kind of money? Not to me anyway. Some of the advertisers statements about originality, as left from factory etc. made me laugh. Look at the firewall the soft top fit, the interior etc. as said most of our cars will put that one to shame. Btw there is a typo in his write up, the car arrived in the U.S. In 1977 (should read 1967) must have been lost at sea for a while LOL

I've a feeling this car has been discussed on here before, possibly by the new owner fishing for information and values. What I can't remember is anyone thinking it was worth a quarter of a million £££'s

The John Lennon car has been for sale for many years at close to $500K.  It is not a perfect car either.  It is likely that the car will not sell any time soon.

I see that the pictures have been convienently removed from the earlier post.  I think it was agreed last time that it was nowhere near original and had been repainted given that the lower sills were in body colour, something MB never did.

Why do I get the feeling it is all a bit of a scam, looks like scam, smells like scam and all to smooth and willing ot register next owner as second when clearly will be third or more!!! good try though but surely someone is not that gullible :o :o :P  Maybe the curent owner fell for the earlier “everything is absolutely original” speel and in less than 12 months realises that he has been had and now trying to pass it off to another gullible punter..

OK fellow members lets nip this in the bud now before it gets out of hand with all these false allegations. Yes I am the owner of this car. The description is exactly what is says it is. One owner from new with the owners name followed all the way through the history and invoices from purchasing the car in Germany right up to now from me purchasing the car from the estate sale in Milwaukee. Leaving the car as  one owner is  more appealing  to certain collectors hence leaving it as is. The seals have not been repainted, As the car is 190g the seals in photo will admit they look the same color but in fact they are not painted. The car is what it is which, Extremely rare to have so much documentation as with all these great options still with the car. It is original apart from just having the engine fully rebuilt. Anyone is more than welcome to come round and view the car and go through all the paper work to satisfy themselves on the original status of car. In fact there are some members on here that have already seen the car and paperwork. I am an active member for many years within the MercedesBenzClub as well and attend pretty much all the shows in anyone of my Pagodas, I am collector of these cars and have huge passion for them like many other members on here and elsewhere. How do you start to put price on something so unique and so rare as this, You only have to look at some of the prices people are already asking for these cars which are nowhere as original as this let alone have any paper work near close to this or options. I am not expecting to achieve this figure but have to start somewhere ?

Thanks all

“ One Owner “ as the advertisement said but you own it but you are not the original owner then you are the second owner and anyone buying it will be the third owner.  They may be the second person to register it. LOL

Why all the photos taken off the site, was there something that we were not to see any more.

“out of your collection”   Someone will get a very nice over priced car but a flip to me.

Whilst I am disappointed that the seller chose not to give me the work, although he did call me about it; here in the UK a trader is not classed as an owner for registration purposes, hence it is indeed still a one owner car by local convention.
Whether or not the car will achieve that price remains to be seen but there's an old saying that goes: "there's one born every minute".

Gerry, Well said!

Oz, absolutely it is the same car that was discussed here from July to August 2013

pagoda113, Please do yourself a favor and invite Stick to appraise your car, he certainly is qualified since it is his business for many years working on cars like yours, then put a realistic price on your fine car. You be better off in the end. One question I have and that is, if you are a Pagoda collector why on earth would you sell such a treasure as you tell us you have?

I am not expecting to achieve this figure but have to start somewhere ?

I think everyone should calm down a bit here..

I have no connection with Pagoda113, but he is surely at liberty to try and achieve the best price for his car,
he is not advertising it on our site here, it is on carandclassic and he is not asking anyone here to endorse his vehicle, so why
the harsh presumptions.

Yes 250K is a lot of money -  but he is not asking any of us for it, or canvassing an opinion on the car/value here.

Live and let live

Keep well & friendly

Of course Paul, the seller has the right to sell for whatever he can get for it there is no question about this.

One of our members posted the link and my comments were based on what I saw. We all know that a top of the line 230 SL is valued for a so called "Best in the World " for just below $130K US by Hagerty Insurance.

Point of reference -----> https://www.hagerty.ca/valuationtools/HVT/VehicleSearch/Report?vbe=15980

Yes he can get more for it if he has all the time in the world. The seller came to our site first in January 2013 then the subject car was discussed here from July to August 2014 many members provided compliments, help and guidance. Once he then posted on this thread I for one just pointed out to get a realistic appraisal unless the original owner was some sort of selebraty or artist, movie star, then the matter is something completely different. I don't think anyone here is giving out "harsh presumptions" I see it as an extension to provide a fellow Pagoda owner with some additional help, surly you agree his price is way off the mark.

I wonder what the insurance premium would be on 250,000 £ 230 SL. When I purchased my car the insurance company asked for photos and what I paid for the car only then did they agree to insure my car for what I paid for it in 2013, in 2015 I insured my car for double the amount since the value escalated since January 2013.

I for one wish the seller all the best with the sale!

Well actually I think there is a little bit more to this than openly meets the eye and Stick has eluded to it.

Pagoda113 in his own words has said that he will be selling it as a one owner car by not registering it and Stick has rightly pointed out that to do so is the preserve of Motor Traders.  Thus there is a suggestion that Pagoda113 may be a motor trader but he is selling it from “his Collection”

As such it makes sense that he should attempt to get the best possible price for the car but having made use of our memebrs and this Forum and a Forum Vendor to get all the comments and indeed some useful information but not declaring that he is in fact maybe a motor trader makes it all a bit of a play on our gullability.  Thus it would not surprise me if someone pays 250k pounds.

Its just hard to put your finger on it but gets me grumpy in my old age when all is not quite right and PC'ness tries to stifle comment.
