Now, more than ever, you really better know what you're buying when it comes to a Pagoda SL. Prices, at that auction alone, swung almost $100k. Don't rely on the auction estimates to tell you what the car 'should' sell for.
It's like there are 2 markets... the auction market and the driveway market. There are still very nice 280SLs selling between private individuals, real cars, real money, changing hands in the $40,000 - $50,000 range... but it's the 230s and 250s that I believe are the real bargains today, thoroughly enjoyable cars, often at a fraction of 280SL money.
