Baby Blue

Hi Everyone. This is my first post and I was hoping for a little advice.

I have a 1970 280SL that I am currently restoring. At the moment it is painted a light powder/baby blue - almost white with a dark blue hard top. The car has been sprayed a couple of times in the past, as you can see the different shades here and there.

I was wondering if this was an original Mercedes colour, or whether it is something that was changed at some point in its life.

I was thinking of changing the colour, but the general consensus seems to be to keep it as original as possible.

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Alex,

Firstly welcome to the Group.

You need to look at the paint tag in the engine bay on the inner fender and you will see what the colour code is.  Also look in the Tech Manual at the various colours to codes.

see http://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/PaintCodes

The light blue dark blue combinations were supplied from the factory.

That's very helpful, thanks Garry!

Mine seems to be much paler than any of the blues shown there, so I'm presuming that's as a result of a respray with non-Mercedes paint.

Thanks for the welcome too. I imagine that in the months and years to come I will spend a fair amount of time on here...

That pic could almost be my car were it not for the seat colour. My exterior is a 334 and the interior is 115.

Hi Alex,

Welcome to our Pagoda SL group you will find helpful and knowledgeable help here.

As mentioned the color code I'd can be found on the left top fender inside your engine bay. You can then look at the original color in the tech manual color chart.

My car is Blue and I get a lot of compliments on the color, you can open my web home page to see some photos.
