Thermo Time Switch
« on: August 09, 2015, 21:24:41 »
Hi All,

I have a 1963 220SE which has the early style thermo time switch (Version 1 which also has the separate thermo switch). I understand that this thermo time switch which will only activate the cold start valve with coolant at 5 DegC or below and is Part No 001 545 1524. The thermo time switch is broken so I was hoping to upgrade it to the later version (3) which would be operational up to 35 DegC coolant temp - Part No 001 545 9224 .

In either case it is murder to find one of these for sensible money. Does anybody know if you can use the ones for later models which are offered much cheaper i.e. 107 series SL's.

I note Bud's Benz offers an aftermarket version on ebay.com to replace Mercedes part no 004 545 9224 and claims it's good for the 220SE. It looks like a solid state version and isn't a bad price.

Does anyone know if it would fit in my car?

Thanks as always and Best Regards

Peter

Hello Peter,

I believe all the thermo-time switches are the same size and should interchange. There are slight differences in actuating temperatures, but I suspect that the later TTS would be usable. I am not 100 % sure but I think you may have a good alternate solution!  Keep us up to date.

Hello Peter,

Thermo time switch P/N 001 545 92 24  is fully interchangeable from 280sl Pagoda to 230 sl Pagoda : no problem. The previous one is not available anymore.
D'ont forget to put the under washer in aluminum when fitting it.

Best regards.
