Putty material

I have completely disassembled my hardtop, and in many places there is still sealing material that looks and feels like window putty. It is still soft after almost 50 years. Does anyone know what I should use as replacement? I don't want to use anything that hardens, because then I guess it will be impossible to eisassembly the top in the future, if ever needed.

I have used rope caulk that you can get in most building supply stores. Not sure whether the Mortite brand is available in Sweden. It remains quite flexible.

I have just rebuilt my top and used a combination of the tape type and grey sikkoflex non hardening mastic , it worked well for me . i found you have to be careful not to get too much tape under the rear quarter window top chrome trim layers as it can reduce the window aperture slightly , making it even harder to replace those glasses! thats were the sikkoflex worked well

good luck , its a time consuming job but well worth it!

In Gernold's excellent hardtop rebuild artilce he uses strip caulk. As I recall when I did my hardtop, I used strip caulk made by 3M. I think I recall getting this at an autobody supply store or on-line. Do an internet search on strip caulk and you should be able to find it.
