How to disassemble fuel sender

How does it come apart? Does the plactic thing on the bottom come off? It seems stuck here.

Ok, i got it. The plastic peice at rhe bottom was really stuck on. I got it off and cleaned everything. I posted pictures if any one need it in the future.

What is that black sludge inside?  I've taken a lot of fuel senders apart and never seen one that looked like that inside...

You have some serious fuel system cleaning ahead of you.  I recommend the Kent Bergma videos on "resurrecting the 6.3" or whatever his series is.  It covers a lot of fuel system cleaning and I've applied most of that to my 300SE M189 fuel system (including injectors and injection pump) and now it is running (sort of).
