Fog Lights

I see a number of Pagodes that have fog lights that are separate from and in addition to the fog light bulbs in the Euro headlight.
It's funny but the size, type and shape of them seem to vary. Most are round but I have seen a few with rectangular fog lights.
They are mounted in board of the big head lights and mounted to the body I believe.
Personally I think they add a sporty look to the front and have considered adding them onto my 67 late 250 SL. Plus my headlights are weak and don't throw much light. I don't drive much in the dark anyway but when I do my eyes always strain to see the road ahead.
The fog light I see on many 250 and 280 sedans of the same era- round with a flat back and chrome surround- seem to be the correct units.
It's not a no no to add these to a non concourse Pagode, is it?
Does the exterior light switch have the ability to control these lights or do they work off a different switch?
Also are there more powerful /halyigon bulbs that I could use to replace my current stock/weak bulbs inside the headlight cover without over taxing the alternator ?

Hi Zak. I fitted a couple of round Hella fog lights to my 280SL, mainly for looks. Not to everyone's taste no doubt, but it's a personal choice. I found that the fog light position on the switch was fully functional, so wired them accordingly.
Incidentally, also found that the left and right parking light function worked. The tail lights already had the diodes in them. Not really of much use, but a throwback to European requirements, and fun to demonstrate. So the stock optional fogs lights were Hella?
I like the look- more aggressive, rallye.
I could use more lumens. I still have the amber French bulbs in the head lights.

I traded in a like new set to Gernold.  I'm not sure if they are available?  Try giving him a call.

 Hi Zak.   Not certain , but I believe the genuine, optional fog lights were Bosch.  Reason I fitted Hella was that I got a good deal on a pair  (Cheapskate, you say ?) , and felt they looked fine mounted.  Cheers,  Dale.

There was also a fog light on rear of car, if it was optional on the Data Card and came with the front fog lamps.  It was a rectangle shaped red lens attached to left side of rear bumper.  I have one but need to wir it.  The switch for the additional fogs is in the center console for this light.  Does anyone have have this light wired, and if so where does the wires go thru the rear bulkhead.

Here is what the rear fog light looks like on a 1969 111 280SE.
Its a Hella light.
