Loudspeaker dashboard
« on: October 19, 2015, 19:35:39 »
My 280 SL came without the loudspeaker in the dashboard and now I bought a new one  (Königs). I also bought the small mounting parts, but have no clue how to use them to mount the speaker, especially the small T-shaped pieces and the rubber plugs. Can anyone help?

Anders,
have you looked at these photos here: http://www.authenticclassics.com/Dash-Speaker-Inst-Hardware-Kit-230SL-250SL-280SL-p/auth-005372.htm ?
Assemble the radio and the protective grill (http://www.authenticclassics.com/Dash-Speaker-Protective-Screen-for-Mercedes-113Ch-p/auth-005884.htm) as shown in the photos. Mount the two speed nuts into the square holes closest to you, then slide the speaker with the T-tabs into the dash cutout and then screw down the assembly through the two front holes.

Have you done a search on the site? There's quite a bit of info.

Also, does your car have other speakers in the footwell? If so, I'd personally forget the idea of using the dash speaker and put some decent speakers in the pre-existing stereo speaker locations. I believe that the term used by audiophiles for the the dash speaker is 'rubbish.' However, if it's the only speaker you have, I'm pretty sure the fitting info has been covered before on the site.

.. and still better, just ignore James' comments!   ::) :D
An audiophile sitting in a W113 at 60mph no matter what kind of speakers is a complete oxymoron!

Yes, just enjoy the sound of your Pagoda engine working...  Put second gear in, go in a tunnel or underpass and accelerate full power... ahhh :-)

I guess concert hall sound experiences require sitting in a modern E-class or similar...

AndersdO

If you haven't done it yet - I installed a new dash speaker from Königs 2 weeks ago and what Alfred says is 100% correct.

The space to insert the speaker is really really tight but the mounting kit I bought from AC has a diagram how to instal (if you want I can scan this and email to you).

The dash speaker is sub-optimal when compared to more modern speakers but works OK. I have 3 speakers at the rear and all together I can hear OK driving with the top down at 60mph

Hello Anders,
Could you please confirm the part number for the SLS mounting set?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards.
