Door glass adjustment on pass side 280SL

I am trying to adjust my door glass so it seals against the rubber seals on my canvas top. Also my glass won't fully retract as it gets to the bottom. There is a metal piece that sits at the bottom of the vertical rail on the latch end of the door about 6 inches long. It seems like it either slides up and down on the vertical track or it stays at the bottom and receives the bottom of the glass as it has some kind of black cloth in a channel that that the glass rides in to stop it from rattling. A photo or two would help of the window mechanism. Thank you.

You may find it helps to post a few of your own pics with text showing where your problem is. Adjusting windows is not a simple task; art over science in my experience - and I'm not very experienced. Posting a few pics may enable someone else to spot a problem.

I recently repaired/adjusted both of my windows (re-glued claws/ plastic guides/lubed etc.).

It is a reasonably difficult job (I probably spent 4 - 5 hours per door) because there are many ways to adjust the level and pitch of the window as it is wound up & down. It can only really be done through trial and error.

Thank you Mark, I just followed the link to the tech manual. From the pictures in the tech manual I see that the aluminum piece has become detached from the glass at the bottom rear. I already have the felt as I saw it was a mess and was all bunched up. The instructions are clear as  the pictures are worth a thousand words. I will let forum know how it turns out.

Just remember, you need to adjust your windows to the Hard Top then re adjust your soft top to the windows otherwise you will never get the glass to work properly with the hard top as it has no adjustment unlike the soft top.

I must have gotten lucky when I redid my driver's side window two weeks ago, because after having taken literally everything apart to re-glue the jaws and replace other worn parts like the sliders, adjusting the window went pretty fast, only took maybe 15 minutes to do the fine tuning. This coming weekend it's onto the passenger side and hope I will be as lucky. The mechanism has so many adjustment possibilities it is indeed more like an art than a science.
