CSS not triggering
« on: December 18, 2015, 00:12:32 »
Gentlmen,
My Constant Speed Solenoid (CSS) has been good as gold for years, but recently it has failed to trigger when the car idles at traffic lights. The solenoid itself is fine and sometimes works, but recently it is not being triggered.
Can anyone advice what steps can be taken to diagnose the issue?
I understand that the the transmission pressure sensor acts as the rigger mechanism. Can this be removed and cleaned?
Anyone had a similar problem?

a few years back I had the same problem and Van Dijk installed a new transmission pressure sensor, which cured the problem. You may also check the wires and connections to see if perhaps those are at fault.

Common fault with the pressure sensors, mine had corroded through the housings letting water in!
Have both gone? or does reverse still work. If both then perhaps suspect broken wire.

Use a pair of long nose pliers to ground the  solenoid cable nearest the rocker cover to earth with the engine running. If your solenoid then operates you have a failed pressure switch.

I had the same question. Good info to put on this site somewhere. See link:
