Yes it is matching numbers. We purchased this car and a 1970 280SL from the same owner. Both were stored inside. This one was stored in an unused garage / workshop. We have the white one running with some minor replacement of parts and adjustments. It came back to life and is running very well. Both are 4 speed stick shifts and matching numbers with the exception of the 1970 for which the hard top was missing so I purchased a used one for that .However I suspect the hard top on the this one actually belongs to the 1970. The 1970 was sitting in a mansion that bascially became over run by racoons hence some nasty cleanup work on the interior is currently underway. It also had a sized engine and i had to remove engine and order new pistons and a whole lot of parts to get it running but both engines are now running. The body on the 1970 has almost no rust anywhere. the white one in this video has some but is repairable.

The prior owner lost all paper work so its taken months to get title but finally done. Love these cars

Pinder,

Nice finds.   You seem to be making very quick work of getting them going.   Gotta be pretty exciting to have both of them running.  Well done.

Thank you Rolf. I have taken a lot of pics .some of them maybe useful to other members I will upload. The Red one (which is being painted back to original ivory color) is very original from what I see. It still have the beige undercoating which i can see now that I am taking off the dirt and grease under the car. Ill post pics and videos soon.

Have you looked at the body number on the underside rail of the hardtop to see if it matches either car?

Tyler,

Where exactly would the number be. is it on the front of the roof? do i need to take the roof off to look at it?

Its on the bottom frame under the rear window. Usually on the drivers side. Yes top needs to come off or prop it up a few inches and find with a mirror.

This is a video of the same car running as of yesterday.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPdTKptBj5s

to get this car running the following list of things have been completed. Next on the list is to get it cosmetically looking good. Its original color is Olive Green which I like a lot better than the ivory.

1. New Brake hoses / Pads / Master cylinder.
2. New plugs and points, and all filters.
3. New Fuel pump, drop tank and cleaned out.
4. Coolant hoses and Power steering pump.
5. Correct Steering wheel.
6. New Ignition switch and key.
7. Replace cracked glass on Speedo.
8. Clean injectors.
9. New set of tires.
10. Clutch Hose and new Master Clutch cylinder and slave.

Minor cosmetics under the hood such as cleanup valve cover and intake manifold plus paint one side of engine bay.

Regards

Pinder
