Bumpers, 68 280SL

Hello Everyone;    I have original bumpers on my '68 280SL.  They are dented, here and there and the chrome is average.   Rather than re-chroming and dent removal, I found that replacing with Stainless Steel Bumpers, would actually cost less.
  I wanted some opinions from you to see what you think.   The stainless steel would be brand new, of course, and looking at them, they appear to have about 90% of the luster as the chrome.    Thank You:   Nicholas

If your original bumpers are not rusted out from the inside I would get them re-plated. The stainless ones might be cheaper because they are.

I've had problems with stuff that wouldn't fit and quality issues. No thanks.

I agree with Dr. Benz however the cost will without question be more than stainless ones. Fit is an issue with ones you commonly see available.
If you decide to go with stainless replacements insist on ones made by sgbumpercars.

I bought a full set for my 1963 220seb coupe and am impressed with the  fit and quality.

The other option might be is to give your bumpers to a paintless dent specialist. Maybe they can be cleaned up without a big bill. I am going to be doing this with my 230SL barn find as the chrome is good. It might be worth a shot.

Had no luck with 2 different sets of aftermarket bumpers. One of them URO. (U'll Replace Often). The brackets in them aren't positioned right. Ended up cutting out and re-welding the brackets to make them fit. Temporary untill I get a batch together for the chromers and re-plate the originals.

 I'm not trying to anyone what to do; just trying to point them in the right direction. Some after market bumpers might be OK but I would advise anyone to save up and plate original ones.
