Spare Tire Wheel Size 71' SL
« on: March 09, 2016, 17:39:09 »
Our 1971 280sl has 6.5"x14" steel wheels with 20 round holes #1084000802, we are running 205/70/14 Michelin tires. The spare that came with the car is a 5.5"x14" no holes #1154001302, as in photo. Is this proper, did the SL have a smaller rim/tire in trunk?

Good read thanks. That explains why the stance is so nice on this car, it has same backspace as stock SL wheel but 1/2" to outside increase, it also has aggressive inside ventilation fins. We like 6.5" look so all ok there. Looks like we have some later model sedan spare so may go with 175/75/14 spare. Diameter will be close but width will be less giving more room. I have checked 14" and 15" space savers with no results.
