Black green wire

I just discovered this hanging loose today. Anybody know which side of the coil it goes to? The 15, or 1 side? I'm thinking the bottom of the picture, the 1 side. I must have left it off years ago when changing out the coil.  :(

I should know that.
Well, the black wire with green marker line is for sure the right side turn signal (and black-whiteis  the left side). That's not it in this case.

However, the attached loop on the wire looks factory to me.
A green wire with a black marker line instead is for the left side parking light. Could illuminate your side marker lens perhaps.
But that also does not make sense since that wire should come from the (left) headlight unit.
So...? I don't know. :(
Maybe something additional for your shut-off/idle relais. US-version 280 ? (if I see this correctly). ???

I don't know .... I'll leave this to the experts.

try and follow where the wire goes to. Does it go to a Resistor?

The wire comes out of a loom right there and is only long enough to attach to the coil. The only electrical problem I've had is with the starter not working most of the time when turning the key. I have added a bypass switch which works when I turn the key on and after it springs back then press the switch. Sometimes I turn the key and it starts right up. I have rebuilt the starter, and celonoid, and replaced the starter switch to no avail. I have temporally attached the wire to both sides of the coil,but nothing happens, no blown fuses or anything else. If anything the bypass switch is a theft deterrent.

Interesting link, but this wire had been conected somewhere as there are circular scratches on the o-ring connector. I've had the car for 34 years and have replaced the coil, making me think I left it off years ago, but maybe not, and just discovered it.

The only other thing I can think of is its a ballast resistor bypass. Look under the car on the rt side terminal block on the oil pan. If it is a 3 screw block, see if you have the same color wire on one of the screws. If you do it is the ballast bypass from the starter. The disconnected end in question would go to the positive side of the coil or the output of the ballast resistor. (This supplies 12 volts from the starter to the coil during cranking) but in your case it may be non functional anyway because of your starter issues. Do you remember seeing 2 small wires when removing the starter?

I just checked that block and on mine only 2 wires in and out, neither black and green. Also a picture of my starter solenoid, the small black wire goes to my bypass switch button.

Is it possible that someone before you, also questioning what it was for, hooked it up to the coil and then removed it? Would account for the circular scratches as if it was hooked up.
If your really determined you can drop the drivers side under dash panel and have a look around to see where the other end goes. Possibly the headlight switch area if its a prewire for fog lights.  Chances are it could be taped back onto the harness and is not connected to anything. Now im curious.

Thanks for your help. I'll be doing some good searching around when I get back to work on it in a few days when some parts I have on order arrive.  :)

Looking at the above pictures some maintenance and TLC is required (before the short circuit and possible fire).
