Techno Classica Essen

Saw a blue pagoda today at techno Classica Essen, on English plates XHA450J is a met blue car with subtle options, is it anyone on here?
1964 230 SL RHD DB304 Horizon Blue
1957 190 SL RHD DB180 Silver
1988 R107 300 SL RHD DB199 Blue Black
1978 C123 230C 2dr Auto RHD Silver

It is not the best idea to drive with a classic car to Essen.
Every year some of them drive with a train back home...

My plan is in a few years to take my car to Europe, perhaps England or Poland ... Have her made Tip Top, add about $50K or so to do this. Once this is done visit and enjoy some of the spots in Germany that I never saw for a few years in the Summer time. I do have family were I can park the car.  Then once I done sell my car in Germany at one of those Auctions. This of course is down the road now say 2 or 3 years (to get it to Europe I mean). Then enjoy it there for 2 to 3 years God willing (touch wood). :)

Who knows what the prices will be in 5 to 6 years. That is the plan ... One must have goals and plans .... After all that is what it's all about, besides that last shirt has no pockets so we cannot take it with us can we now. ~grin~

Mine is as nice I'm thinking as that € 234,980- one, except for the engine needs detailing and needs a new stainless exhaust system. Right now I have no plans to do anything since my car runs reliable on long runs (longest was 1,600 Miles in 2013). If I had the aforementioned work done now my car would likely fetch $70K to $80K as a fair price ... Yes that € 234,980- one is way over the top.

Ok, here are the continued reporting from TC 2016. The Coys auction hammered some real nice automobiles. I just visited the first part of the auction. The 1968 280SL (€37k-45k) was sold for €38k + buyers premium. It was a restauration case in my eyes. Hard to tell about the underbody though. See pics.

The other two pagodas at the auction, a silver 1966 230SL (€70k-85k) and a red 1967 250Sl (€35k-45k), I'm not aware about their final sales. The 230 was quite nice and the 250 was perhaps resto project out of an earlier bad restauration in my eyes. See pics. The final prices are published in about two weeks on www.coys.co.uk

I also had the opportunity too look at Pagoda VIN #64 in a total untouched (and neglected) condition. See pics. And suddenly we were two Pagoda aficionados hanging over the rusty body. The other guy was Achim :D Nice to meet you!

Also, I had an nice chat with Michael Müller-Funk at Grosser, who had 4 Pagodas on stand. One was an 1964 230Sl just recently restored for an client. It was really nice. One interesting car in the MB stand was an 250SL California Coupe with a very special soft top. At another stand was one pagoda with a M100 6.3 under the hood and a firm who converts the hard tops with sun roof. See pics.

And this was just about the pagodas. There were many other very nice automobiles at this show. In general at very high standards in my opinion. Porsche was about as common as Volvos in Sweden... There were some nice R107 in the k€50's. Could it be so that the market is heading for €50k for good 107's and €100k for good 113's ???

No Johan, I left it on all last year and may do the same this year, I just find she looks more complete with the top on.

Hello Johan,
do you have the first photo showing the firewall in a higher resolution that you could email me? It appears to me that the car still had the very first "pebbly" firewall pad before Mercedes installed the familiar diamond patterned pad on all later cars. No wonder that Achim took a close look!  ;)
