I am still having oil smoke problems on start up and tick over.  Replaced all the seals but still a problem.

I noticed two part number sets.  Are they different or the same or have I got it wrong?

127 586 0105 set vs 127 586 0005 set.

Also note that you can buy these on eBay for far less than Mercedes.  Are they the same ?

If they are different I will try the other type or is that a red herring ?

127 586 01 05 comes up as a repair kit for a M180 engine.  00 05 is not a valid number.

I did a valve job on a 230 a couple of months ago.  The PNs I used were 000 053 09 58 for the exhaust  and 000 053 19 58 for the intake.  These are not sets, you need to order six of each.

Metric Motors told me they order them in a set from Mercedes.  You could shoot them and email and ask for the part number.  Address is metricmotors@earthlink.net

Cheers,
Chuck Taylor

Great. Many thanks. I have seen somewhere that the exhaust seals could be black. All the ones I have seen are white. Wondered if the black ones were different.  I will email them.
It could be that one has come off as well.

Thanks.

Another interesting Mercedes anomaly.

The Exhaust Seal part number is A000 053 09 58 which also fits various M121's in addition to the M127 according to the EPC.
If you order the part individually they are $7.03 each or $42.18 for 6.

The Intake Seal part number is A000 053 1958 which also fits various M115's as well as various M100's in addition to the M127 according to the EPC.
If you order the part individually they are $5.55 each or $33.30 for 6.
Total price for the complete I and R Valve Seals for the M127 if ordered individually is $75.48

If you order the M115 seal repair kit, A115 050 0105 for 4 of each (I and E) the price is $49.58 (you'll need 2 kits) and have 2 left over.   Total: $ 99.16
If you order the early M100 seal repair kit A100 586 00 05 for 4 of each (I and E) the price is $62.90 (you'll need 2 kits) and have 2 left over. Total: $125.80
If you order the later M100 seal repair kit A100 586 01 05 for 4 of each (I and E) the price is $56.98 (you'll need 2 kits) and have 2 left over.  Total: $113.96

So, as far as I can tell - at least according to the EPC, you can either pay$75.48, $99.16 or $113.96 for the same part number to do a complete seal replacement on a M127 motor.
The kits MAY contain other items but that is not clear.

All prices are from MBOEMParts.com.
These are genuine M-B parts from a M-B Dealer (Mercedes of Naperville, IL).
The EPC is our friend.

Kind Regards,

Ron

Hi Ron,  Interesting around prices of bit for these cars.  I am beginning to learn the hard way !   Found that you do need to shop around.  I had bought some of the seals form my local mercedes classic dealer, they were around £6 each ($9-10).  found this company   KMS INTERNATIONAL LIMITED - bought a FULL set, including the plastic guides for a total of £12 ($18-19) including tax, next day delivery.  Bargain.  They are identical to the mercedes ones.

Found this with a few bits.  EG needed a new condenser - mercedes wanted about £30.  Found 2 on ebay for £2 delivered!
