Gas Tank Pads?
« on: October 31, 2004, 13:14:51 »
Has anyone removed their gas tank and replaced the pads that sit between the top of the tank and the bottom of the trunk floor?  Look at the attached picture... It shows the underside of my car, gas tank removed.  You can see some of the pads still glued to the underside, the remaining pads are still glued to the old tank.  These old pads appear to be made of cork?  What is recommended to use?  What sort of glue?  Can I buy the material in bulk and cut into squares?  Ideas are appreciated.  Local auto parts store doesnt seem to carry anything that is useable.  I would like to avoid the dealer....

Thanks!

Bob,

I suggest using one or more layers of the Wurth sound deadening material; it is the same stuff that is on top of certain areas of the trunk.  You can find it here:

Thanks to Doug Kim for the info.

fyi...

The new gas tank arrived tonight.  It has the pads already glued on.  New tank does not include the bottom drain plug with screen, filter.

I purchased the new gas tank from Rusty (salesman) at: http://parts.mbz.org/
Rusty was very helpful, did a search while I was on the phone with him, determined that 16 tanks were in the USA and delivery would be within a couple of days.  Rusty had the best price out of the many places that I called.  I would recommend him as a good source for your MB parts.
