Coupe
« on: June 01, 2016, 13:23:07 »
I went to view a 280 yesterday which is a full on restoration project but is coming up as a SLC with a car check company and as a coupe on the logbook.

I know there are companies out there who can convert a californian coupe to a standard car with soft top but this vehicle looks to be an original standard car.

Has anyone else ever come across a standard car with the word "coupe" on the logbook?

Thanks
Ifty

Do the serial numbers on the papers match the serial number stamped in the body on the passenger side frame rail forward of th subframe mount under the hood (http://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/VIN)?  Identity tags can be switched but the frame rail stamping would be tougher to fake.  If they match it is probably just an error in the paperwork or perhaps a car delivered without a soft top but still having the compartment which also happened from time to time.  the soft top was simply bolted in later.

Thanks Shvegel

I will be popping back to view the car again as it was completely surrounded by storage items in the back corner of the garage.

Cheers

The V5 for my UK spec 1964 230SL has "D.5 Body Type: Coupe".

Thanks Julian

Did the V5 state the vehicle as an SL or SLC ?

Thanks Ifty
