Need Complete Exhaust System
« on: November 07, 2004, 10:20:54 »
Well the time has come. My muffler didn't like my car anymore so it decided to leave at about 69 miles an hour on I-80.

I know this is a topic that gets really beat up but can we beat it up one more time. Please!

Questions: Original or Stainless - Where to purchyase in my area (East Coast U.S.) What to look out for (Problems)
Thanks Guys

I have a Timevalve exhaust on mine and would not want anything else.  Of course this is only a matter of opinion because others prefer a stock system.  The Timevalve is stainless steel and has a very distinct sound to it.

I have been told that whatever system you purchase ensure that the centre section has the crossover pipes otherwise your mile per gallon can suffer.
Personally I would go for Stainless, especially if you live in an area where damp, rain and salt can be an issue.

Speaking of Time Valve, there was a rumor (unsubstantiated) that you can now order the Time Valve in both the "stock" or "factory" sound, or their standard sound which is a bit more "throaty" then some boulevardiers like to hear on the 113's.  That was the biggest complaint about Time Valve.

I have been trying to contact timevalve at www.timevalve.com , but see that the site is down. Does anyone know if they are still in business, as I need a complete new system?
hauser: What does your system sound like compared to stock?
mdsalemi: Also what is the diff between stock and factory ? Which did you choose?

Timevalve is still in business.  They advertise in The Star all the time.  They are located in Connecticut.  Sometimes you need to look beyond the internet.

As I explained perhaps not clear enough in the previous post, there is supposed to be a "factory" version of their muffler.  This is supposed to emulate the sound of the factory muffler versus the standard Timevalve which kind of growls.  I have the standard--it was not an option at the time.  It could be quieter but isn't bad at all.  There is far too much other noise like wind to worry about. Others hate the noise.

I used to handle a stainless system made in England called Doubble SS. Really nice quality and about the same price as the factory system. I think Time Valve was less at the time but I can't say now as it's been a few years.
I would likely replace my system with stainless when the time comes.

Vince,
I just recently installed a stainless steel "Borla" system.  It came out of New Jersey and was sold with an install kit.  I find it a little noisy, definitely more of the "throaty" sound others have mentioned.
The install was fairly easy and the biggest issue for me was finding stainless steel tips that would fit over the system.  My old tips were welded on and impossible to remove.
Good luck
