Have adjusted the alternator belt on my 230 and tightend the relevent nuts/bolts but when I pinch the belt to check the
tension the alternator seems to move as if rubber mounted ? is this normal.Thanks.Mike.

It should not move. Double check the bracket bolts where the bracket bolts to the block. Also check the bolt at the end of the threaded rod where it bolts to the block near the balancer. Make sure the lower pivot bolt is tight as well.

Mike, Assuming you don't have AC then removing the bracket it pretty straight foreward. Remove the alternator then the bolts for the bracket. Easiest to do from underneath the car. Remove the Horn and bracket, will give you loads of room.

Hey Mike,

The bracket is available and the MSRP from Mercedes is $165.00. Many dealers on the internet will give you from 20-40% off MSRP so check them out. One link included below and there are others.

The later brackets were heavy cast iron and were much better than the early fabricated steel "strap" type.  You have to intstall longer mounting studs on the block if you change to the latter cast iron bracket. Be sure to seal the threads of the mounting studs or you will have an oil leak.

Seems like that may be the spacer that goes inside the rubber bushings.

Hi, Mike,

That spare spacer that you have (127 155 0050, #34) is used to align the alternator to the w/p and crank pulley.
It was many years ago that I had the alternator out on the 230, so I can't remember exactly where it goes. The picture may help.

The 2 sleeves that go with the 4 rubber mounting bushes (#35) have a smaller OD

The belt 000 997 59 92 is AV10x875La

Naj.Just to let you know I have sorted the problem, slackened the bottom pivot bolt a few turns(must have over tightened it)
and know the pullys are perfectly lined up fitted new lock nut.Take Care.Mike
