Wind noice

I have new rubber seals on my car and this is my first pagoda so I don't have any comparison. Wondering what will be typical speed when you start to hear wind noice coming from the top part of windscreen attached to hardtop? My car start to have a wind noice when the car hit 120km/hr on hardtop and about 90km/hr for soft top. Is this typical or I can improve this?

I´ve not noticed any wind noise coming from between the front windscreen where it meets the hard- or the soft-top. Not even from the side windows, only with the soft top on a bit from the bottom, just behind the doors as the corners of the soft top don´t sit tight against the body there. It sounds like you have too much space between the tops and the top of the windscreen.

At what speed are we talking about? My car start having a noice when I go above 120. I have new rubber seals and the hard top were locked properly not sure it is design issues or ?

Every convertible that's more than 40 years old exhibits wind noise at highway speeds, even with new weather strips or rubber seals. It's just the way it is with convertibles, an integral part of driving one.  Our Pagodas were well engineered for their time, above of other car brands, but wind noise is noticeable on mine above 40 Mph, let alone 120 kph (75 mph) with the soft top up. With the hard top in place, wind roar is less noticeable but still present.

If the noise starts above 120, it´s possible that the side windows are not adjusted sufficiently tight against the windshield frame. I had that issue two years ago on the driver´s side window, and I addressed it by putting in new washers and other wear parts in the window lifting mechanism, then adjusting it so it would fit tight enough so that the window would stay snug even at high speeds. Try closing off the outside air through the vents when driving at high speeds (this reduces the propensity of the window to move outward, hence allowing outside air to enter and make the noise). I was even able to see the window move outward at high speeds. If this makes a noticeable difference, then probably this is your issue.

Yep I have changed the mechanics parts for the Windows and it is seal tight. Now basically from the roof. Guess it is the design of old car. My Porsche convertible can go to 180km without wind noice.

Hmmm . . I will need to try again to be sure but I really don´t recall significantly more wind noise at any elevated speeds.  I don´t tend to drive much above 125 km/h because I don´t want to get a ticket. But there have been a few occasions where I´ve driven upwards of 170-180 km/h and also then I don´t recall noticing that much more windnoise than at, say, 110-120. Maybe others with high-speed experience can contribute to this. Is your Porsche from the same period?

No my Porsche is 2006 and that's why it has better roof design.

I was going 118mph (190km/h) going home from PUB last year. Mmmh don't remember any wind noise really.

118 mph on 40 year old suspension with 40 year old brakes, no airbag, simple seat harness, primative crumple zones, no rollover protection----did you sign your organ donor card?

48 years old, yes. Suspension, brakes etc. as new. Don't forget the car was made for that!! The racing I did in younger years was much faster than 118mph. Organ donor? Who wants my old stuff?
