Whats a Z-f 5 speed worth?
« on: September 26, 2016, 03:48:41 »
Looks like I may have found the winning Golden Ticket in my brothers barn. The 280se he was about to sell for scrap appears to have a zf 5-speed in it. If it proves to be one, what is it worth? I will want to pay him fair price for it as he could use the money.

Buds Benz in today's e-mail has a 5 speed on the main page, installed they offer it for just under $6,000- US

Now based on condition of the one you found .... Perhaps that might help you. I don't know if it would fit into a Pagoda mind you, you need to check with Bud's to check on that. I like my Automatic Transmission and would never change. If I like to shift I take my C63 AMG for a spin :)

Bud Benz 5 speed is based on a T5. Not a ZF 5 speed, which is the original MB option for Pagodas.

If I am not mistaken the sedans used a side shifted 5 speed which is much less valuable than the 5 speed in our cars.

You will have to crawl under the car to verify iy.  This is the correct ZF-5 speed gearbox:

http://www.authenticclassics.com/New-ZF-5-Speed-Transmission-for-230SL-250SL-280SL-p/auth-004230.htm

$20,000 new so 8-10 in any decent working order.

Thanks for the pic.

I checked the linkage after Joe said he pulled  few zf's out of 280Se's before. I pulled the tunnel cover off from the inside and it appears to be the same linkage set up as what's shown in this picture. I will know for sure after I can pull it out of his crowded barn this coming weekend.
