Buyer's Guide Dream Car W 113 Pagoda
« on: October 05, 2016, 20:57:23 »
If you are a Member of the Mercedes Benz Club you should have received last month in addition to the Star Magazine the Mercedes-Benz classic Issue 02 2016. It contains not only "Timeless Classics" also some wonderful stories. Including the subject story of our belowed Pagoda.

For those of you not having received the magazine I snapped some photos that I like to share with you. I don't know if you can order the edition anywhere, perhaps some one knows that comes across this post.

The two tables are interesting, one on pricing based on condition and the other how many are registerd for the road in Germany. You can look up the details as to "Condition 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5" (you may have to type the link In order to open it).

Here ---->  mbmg.me/bgpagoda

Once the above link opens you find 2 PDF files on the bottom of the page you can open.

While we have a great write up about "Prepurchase Checks" in our Technical Manual here on line, the article by Thomas Wirth along with supporting photograps by Götz von Sternenfelds is a good read.

Enjoy

Dieter

Black 1968 or early 1969 red-taillighted 280 SL

... and following your link, Hans, brings you even further (Michael Salemi's link therein):

Enjoy ! ;D

Sadly, not more many ladies owning an (113) SL nowadays !
Too expensive, too much maintenance necessary, too old-fashioned (not more "modern" enough) for the most ladies. :o :-[ :'(

 ;)

I see a definite slant in the classic magazine toward getting women to buy a classic Mercedes.  About 80 percent of the issue was centered on fmale owners and drivers.

The buyers guide is good but you might want to ignore the part about the 6 grease fittings on the front axle.  There are actually 14 and each one protects an expensive little chunk of steel.   To the front axle's credit my near 100,000 mil front axle needed nothing at rebuild.  I replaced the king pins and upper pivots simply because I had them in boxes on the shelf.  Having to restore and axle that has been neglected could be a very expensive undertaking.
