230/250SL column switch
« on: November 19, 2016, 18:12:40 »
Hi Gents,
Has anyone had problems with defective new column switches. My new switch does not seem to operate correctly.  Pushing the lever cap 'in' switches the toggle switch on, flicking the toggle switch over is supposed to switch over to high speed and pushing the cap switch in again, should turn the wipers off.
Also the colour coding of the new switch does not match the wiring in the car.
The technical manual refers to the later 280SL only.
Any comments will be much appreciated.
Regards
Chris

Hello Chris,

New column switch?
Does not operate properly?
No, I have never heard of before.

The function(s) you describe are correct, that's what the column switch is supposed to do.
Now, I haven't understood your question,
please, what is wrong with your new one?

Q 2: Is your new switch a genuine MB part or a (the Chinese) reproduction?
Q 3: Does your old switch operate proply in your car?

Best,
Achim

Hi Achim,
Apologies for the comfusion.
Yes, it is a new VDO switch purchased from a Mercedes dealership. Second push does not turn the wipers off.

OK TKS Gents,
I did not realise it is an eletronic switch. I was under the impression there was a machanical switch in the stalk. Once I got it wired up, it was quite clear why you guys did not understand my question.
All sorted now, thanks any way.

Chris
