Larry Watson Rainbow Paint Job on a Pagoda
« on: November 28, 2016, 20:29:15 »
I stumbled on these websites, the first of which has a pic of a Pagoda painted in rainbow colors by Larry Watson in Downey, CA, in the early 1970s.

Question 1: Has anyone ever seen the car with CA number plate "VINGT 7" or know what became of it?

Question 2: What would be the correct paint code?

Question 3: Does anyone agree with me that the fender-mounted wing mirrors just don't look correct?

1. Perhaps someone from CA would best answer this.
2. Obviously not a color code.
3. Yes, these look inappropriate. However, the front forward mount, side view mirrors may have been a requirement on Japanese cars of the era since they all seemed to have it. If you look at any OEM literature from Datsun or Toyota of the time, they all had it. Maybe the customizer Mr. Watson though they were interesting.

More revolting than the mirrors are the wire wheels. Remember back then this was just a used car. The status it has today did not exist then.

The forward mounted mirrors are to suit Japanese code which requires that the mirrors be visible through the windshield.  Looks like the car may have started as DB350 Medium Blue(Mittleblau).  My car is DB350...Hmmm.

Well, it's still $650
Though you may be lucky to get a door painted for it... ;)
