PEAK Global Lifetime Antifreeze Commercial

Has anyone seen that new antifreeze commercial airing right now? It features a Pagoda, among other cars.

Seems like a remarkable product. It's a long-life coolant good for 5-year/150K changing intervals. It uses Organic Acid Technology, as opposed to conventional inorganic 2-yr/24K technology. It's backed by a lifetime warranty.

Anyone out there using it on their SL?

Are you saying I should change my antifreeze after 35 years? Why ? It's still working: I look into that little round tank and the grass in there looks very healthy.

There is nothing new with "long life" antifreeze, VW sell it over here known as G12 or G13, not sure, anyway they claim it will last the life of the car.
In most cases antifreeze will not loose it's antifreeze properties, but it will loose it's anti corrosion properties which can cause problems.
It's not a bad idea to drain and flush the system every 2 - 5 years anyway to reduce the amount of scale and other deposits that build up over time. especially if you have to use "hard" water

The Engineers comment is really funny!

Do you guys use the "pre mix" antifreeze, or buy the standard stuff and mix distilled water?

Douglas, I've noticed the Pagoda, it's the best thing about that ad.

I think these extremely long life promises are mostly marketing ploys and should not be trusted.  Oil and antifreeze that are supposed to last forever don't.  The organic acid technology does seem to be better than the older stuff, but all anticorrosion additives get used up over time and we have no easy way of knowing how much is left.  Every case will be different.  Under ideal conditions it might last 5 years or even more, but in other cases it may last only 2.  Changing antifreeze every 2-3 years is cheap insurance.

George,

I agree about cheap insurance. It seems like long-life antifreeze doesn't really solve a problem that any of us truly even has! I was just impressed by the claim.

I have been using the Texaco Havoline product in my Ford Mustang V8 developed for General Motors Aluminum North Star Cadillac motors and I find it works excellent. I would not recommend going beyond 2 to 3 years flushing and replacing this product on daily used cars.

SAE has an intresting paper on Radiator corrosion and why it recommends using distilled water free of mineral content to add to the solution and mix. If any one would like a copy I would be more than happy to send it to you.

I am sure some of the new anti freeze introduced have better protection, as materials of automobiles change so do what we feed them. For those interested in Peak products they can be seen on this web address. www.peakantifreeze.com For a comparision to Texaco Havoline antifreeze www.havoline.com/products/na/antifreeze.html
