vertical spare tire mounting
« on: January 03, 2017, 12:56:56 »
Hi,

I have early 230SL with vertical spare tire and I'm looking for the mounting kit which is missing from my car.  Can anyone give me parts numbers for pictures? Also where I can get those?

Many thanks,

For the cars with the vertical spare, there are two types of clamps
The first is 111 400 00 41 with a wing screw -110 990 01 38 and two washers 13 DIN 125 ( 000125 013000) on the top of the clamp, and 000 987 21 41 under the clamp.

The clamp was changed to part no 110 403 00 02 up to chassis 7204 when the horizontal carrier was installed. With the exception of VIN 6069 (prototype for horizontal mounting), 7216, 7232, 7253 and 7277.

The part book did not detail when when 111 400 00 41 was changed to 110 403 00 02.

The wing screw was also changed (not specified when) to 110 990 00 38.

The top photo on the attached diagram is the earlier style.

Hopefully someone can post a photo/diagram of what the clamp mounts to.
