Website: https://www.choicehotels.com/virginia/charlottesville/sleep-inn-hotels/va344

Hotel and Phone Number: Best Western Waynesboro (540) 942-1100

Website: https://www.bestwestern.com/en_US/book/hotels-in-waynesboro/best-western-plus-waynesboro-inn-suites-conference-center/propertyCode.47131.html

We did not have much leverage on rates.  There is a University of Virginia home football game that weekend, and that time of year is apparently popular for weddings.

For other accommodations in the area, you can search for “Charlottesville VA” or “Crozet, VA” at the following sites:

https://www.airbnb.com

https://www.bedandbreakfast.com

https://www.travelocity.com

Member Johan (JOWE) recommends considering the English Inn, saying "... they seem to have availability and relatively competitive room rates including hot breakfast. The rating on Tripadvisor is also high."  You can find them at http://www.englishinncharlottesville.com.

I booked at the U of V Inn at Darden today.  This hotel belongs to the University and I was told it is used as a residence for their executive programs.  They said that they have gone public because of less executive course volume.

All rooms are outfitted the same (one queen size bed only).  I was told that breakfast is not available unless they have an executive course in session during our event.

They have two residence buildings and only one of the two has covered parking.  Be sure to request if you want your Pagoda under cover..

They also have a non-cancellable rate available at $162.

I'll check on the breakfast situation.  It's my understanding it was included.

I booked two rooms at the U ov V Inn today for me and my nephew Christian (the retired Canadian Forces Adjutant) that some of you met at Joe's place in Blacklick at PUB2015.  My wife has no interest in old cars and suggested I take Chris again since he loved PUB2015 so much.  There must be something wrong with her, not to like old cars - probably something to do with hormones.

That's a beautiful hotel.  I love Colonial American architecture.  I guess I'll have to call back again to ask if I'm booked in the building with covered parking.

I booked my room for two nights at the U of V Inn at Darden for $180 per night (refundable) on the website as I did not get an answer when I called. I will call early next week to book at the $170 per night rate. Of note, there is a non-refundable rate for $162 per night available on the website, but if the $170 rate is still available and refundable, I will sacrifice and pay the extra $8 per night to have the security and flexibility :-).

I called U of V Inn at Darden about covered parking.  They've marked my file with a covered parking authorization although I suspect that being booked into the West Queen Phase 2 Building may already have done that.  Bottom line:  I've got covered parking but am still not sure what it takes to get it, other than telephoning to ask.

Also, I have the impression that I was one of the first to reserve at the U of V Inn at Darden since it was on Jan 5, right after Chuck Taylor posted the information and the person I talked to didn't even know about the Room Blocking for PUB until I told him about it and he looked it up in their computer.  They were still confused about the conditions and gave me a $175 / night refundable price, maybe because I added two extra non-weekend nights - Thursday and Sunday.

Anyway, I didn't argue about the extra $5.00 / night and I didn't ask about breakfast being included or even parking arrangements at the time.  I assume it will all get straightened out when Chuck Taylor talks to them and besides, I didn't want to be thought of as being "difficult".

It looks like a great hotel.  It looks like it will be easy to get to Greenwood (Ramsay Farm) from there.

Here are some additional options for lodging for the event. You can check out Guesthouses in Charlottesville:

vaguesthouses.com

There are about 40 or so different properties, ranging from guest suites to whole houses, between Charlottesville and Crozet, and the surrounding Albemarle County area. Rates range from $150/night to $750/night depending on the property, which sleep from two up to 10 guests. Properties generally provide either full, continental or supplies for breakfast.

Happy to provide specific property recommendations based on your needs.

I made a reservation at U of Virginia as well. Those executive inns have been a good choice for me when visiting Canadian University campuses so far.
The fellow I reserved with said it's in their system at $175 per night, but that he would look into the rate.
And he said the covered parking is available, that the management appreciates how important old cars can be :-)

What is the address of the location for PUB 2017?  I'm trying to map it out for my drive.  I haven't found it on a posting yet.  Thanks

I just booked a room for two nights at the University at Darden for $162 a night (plus tax). Use Bookings.com, and sign up on their web site. It says nothing about meals with this though...
I will be flying in so no car, but the web site does have a requests box to request covered parking, but I'm sure you would still need to call.

I just checked in at the U of V @ Darden and they told me that there is NO breakfast included in the room rate and none offered, other than fruit and coffee in the lobby. However, they said there were a number of restaurants and coffee shops in the area, where you could go for breakfast.

Hi Dieter,
I did not expect you to be "blue-blooded"! Nor am I, btw  :)
But since Virginia did not vote for the President-elect I thought those true blue ones might feel better at home there.  ;D

I did not list Trump Winery as an option primarily due to the distance (about 45 minutes) and because these locations generally are booked for weddings at this time of the year.

Alfred,

I'm reminded of an American Truck stop joke where the customer asked several questions like;-

"Bartender is it okay to talk about religion?" He replied "We never talk about religion in this bar!"

So he went on

"Bartender is it okay to talk about politics?"  He. Replied "we never talk about politics in this bar!"

Once more he tried ....

"Bartender is it okay to talk about sex?" Were the Bartender replyed "in this bar it's always okay to talk about sex!"

Alfred, I'll tell you the rest of the story some day :)

btw. I also don't like to talk about religion ot politics.

Please don't laugh at me when I ask this.  While I have been a member for a while my Pagoda should maybe be ready in time to attend.  My question is simple.  What does PUB stand for?  I can take a guess.  Again don't laugh.  Thanks in advance.  I would love to get my car there if I can make it work so that I can meet all of you.

Hi Dick,

PUB denotes Pagoda University Blacklick.

Joe Alexander in Blacklick, Ohio has been hosting PUB for quite a number of years, Joe has an acarage on it he has his home and shop. If you explore Joe's posts you will soon find that he is one of the founding members of this Group and into our cars for the past 35 years. Should you make it to PUB - Verginia 2017 you will have a chance to meet Joe. Once you meet Joe I know you will find that he is not shy to help you out or answer any question you come up with.

The word "University" simply denotes the caliber of knowlage charing that goes on every 2 years when we meet. We decided to retain the PUB and simply add the location and Year in future. This is the best explanation I can come up with about our cars.

I hope you get your car in shape and make it to our September get together it will be fun.

Best Dieter

In addition to the previous mentioned hotels, I also suggest http://www.englishinncharlottesville.com/ which I got $129.99 fri+sat and $119.99 sunday including hot breakfast. High scores on Tripadvisor too. It's located only a few blocks from U of V @ Darden.

Thanks, Johan, for the tip on the English Inn at Charlottesville.  I just cancelled the Inn at Darden and booked the English Inn at Charlottesville for Thursday through Saturday nights for myself and my nephew.  Thursday night is also $119.00 like Sunday night.  Friday and Saturday are still $129.00 if you book through the hotel directly.  The "cheap" booking agencies like Travelocity are $165.00 per night.  I've found that calling the hotel directly yields almost always the best price.

It has been a long time since I've had a breakfast like listed in their amenities section.  Up here in Quebec, the food is gourmet, except for breakfast, but I'm a Missouri (U.S.A.) farm boy and those mid-America farm breakfasts are, to use an slang phrase, "to-die-for".  I don't know if I can wait until September.

The parking is outside but they said to just park in front of the lobby and no one will bother the car.  They said they have car clubs often and have never had a problem.

Thanks again for the tip.
