Convex Mirror on Drivers Side
« on: February 16, 2017, 20:37:42 »
I just wanted to share a few before and after pictures of replacing the drivers side standard mirror glass with a convex mirror. It makes a huge difference in being able to see a car in a potential blind spot. I parked my other car in the blind spot and took the first two pictures. You cannot see the car at all. Leaving the cars exactly where they were I then replaced the drivers side mirror glass with the convex glass. You can clearly see the car is now visible. It does slightly distort the reflection but at least I will know when someone is trolling my blind spot.

Those convex mirror glasses are quite popular and we still carry them in stock.

Dear Tyler,

When I purchased my 280SL about 15 years ago, there was a convex mirror on the driver's side.  After driving that car a little I came to realize that since I drove my other cars most of the time and since those cars had a flat mirror on the driver's side, it was dangerous for me with the convex mirror only on the 280SL that I only drove occasionally.  I would misjudge how close a car in the adjacent lane really was to me.  I ended up replacing the convex mirror with a flat mirror for the driver's side.  I do have a convex mirror on the passenger side.

I have that extra convex mirror around here somewhere if someone wants one for a fair price..

I have always used my mirrors to see who is there. Then if I decide to change lanes I look over my shoulder first. The convex mirror in the pagoda keeps the rubbernecking to a minimum.

Years ago I installed a mirror on the passenger side. I did not know that I could buy a convex mirror. Went to a truck supply place, bought a large convex mirror an found a glazing place to grind it to fit the MB mirror holder. Used it ever since.

Thanks a lot, Tyler.

Did this too on my 114 a couple of years ago. Don't want to miss the convex mirror ever more; coudn't be happier!

Sadly, no equivalent one available for the early style fintail goose neck mirror.  :(
Couldn't find a suitable larger & blue convex (truck) mirror yet.
Still looking for ...

Hi,
I changed my both mirrors from standard to convex too (both same mirror glass for 280 SL: A1158110166). It' s really a big difference and improvement especially on the passenger side it's much better.
