Can this 230SL be saved

This is what happens when someone decides to use up all of the W114 parts on the remains of a 230SL. I have no idea what the body is really like trying to base it on the pictures furnished.

It could be the basis of a resurrection if the body is actually solid and someone has a 230SL parts plié with correct driveline and wiring harness. I hope the car finds a good direction.

What are the forum member thoughts?

I reckon it could be a decent starting point for a historic rally/classic tour car. Not one like the Monte Carlo historic with proper scrutineering but the more "tour" based ones where there might be more latitude over "originality". Could be a reliable unit and for the money, if it was your thing, you'd not mind putting it over 1000 miles of gravel and the like

The under the hood wiring and radiator/oil cooler installation look shoddy. I don't think you could run this car with what's in it. God only knows how bad the workmanship really is.
If someone has parted out a 230SL that was rusted (too far gone) and had all of the pieces (driveline, wiring, seating, and trim) maybe you could end up with a decent non matching numbers car.

Trying to figure out what the trophy in the trunk is for....
In all reality im sure this car was most likely a rust heap to begin with. Whomever did the body work even reworked the rear of the car to accommodate the sedan tail lights.

removed the rear trim chrome to save weight but kept front rally lights and kinder seat-  bogus story

This car is at the point where it's priced too high to pay as a parts car and it's not really much good as a restoration candidate either. BTW, matching numbers mean almost nothing on our cars. When people start bidding 20K more for them then it will make a difference and then a number set will really pay out.

That 65 sl has Maggot casings in the driver side - I assume that means an animal died in there to add a noxious odour to the patina.

When it comes to restoring a pagoda that one on eBay is, as far as I'm concerned, the perfect car.
Not messed with, lots of original detail to be noted before disassembly, all the little detail parts still present and correct. I would rather pay $25000 for that than the usual polished turds at $50000, especially if it has known provenance.
