W111 hood pads
« on: April 13, 2017, 15:33:13 »
I see the W111 hood pads are once again available from Mercedes (111 682 52 26). At what point did these cars have the hood pads? Was it an option or done later in the series? I can't see anything on the underside of my '68 W111 hood that would indicate it had one.

Thanks!

I think that was only for V8 cars. The 108 4.5 had them as well.

I think you are right. Those had the lower grille and I can't see how you could use the same pad for both high and low grill hoods. No wonder they brought it back as the prices of the V-8 cars have gone through the roof. There's money to be had.

Wallace,
My 69 280SE has the thick foam hood insulation. 6 cylinder / convertible.
I assume it is correct on my car.

Well then who knows when they started putting them on. My '68 has no evidence of anything. How is yours attached to the hood?

I've never seen that on a high grill car but then I haven't seen that many. I am sure that the 3.5 cars had them.

No high grille car ever left the factory with hood pad.
Only V8 cars had them. Also 108/109s equipped with a v8 came with the pads.
Out of the V8s, only the w109 6.3 came without,

My High grill has a pad. See photos. Of course the pad could of been added during the repaint by a previous owner. The car went trough a color change in the early 90's.
The pad does fit well and doesn't look as though it was modified to fit my hood.
