66 clutch slave alternative?
« on: April 17, 2017, 01:45:01 »
Hello all- I'm a new member that posted the other day in the photo gallery working again on my old friends 66 230sl- it's been sitting up several years and I worked on it myself last 19 years ago (I was...19!).

It's time for the car to get a proper home where it can be restored, it's been stored indoors mostly until the last few months and I promised to help start and run it for good measure before it's sold as a nice project.

I come from the old Corvette world, and have tremendous respect for the build quality of the 230!   I hate it when people come into our forums looking only to sell something - so please forgive me in advance for coming here and mention it early.  I do care about the heritage of old cars of many stripes.

The clutch slave is out it won't bleed from the caliper as Joe suggests in searched posts nor will it bleed with my vacuum bleeder. Can I use an alternative to a MB part to get some clutch action just to facilitate stop/start on my test drives?  This car will not be going back in traffic prior to sell.  If there's a modern inexpensive and (importantly) readily available pusher slave I can use or any other advice please let me know!

Also if anyone would like to PM me for photos of the car and help me decide what it should sell for it would be appreciated. It's a 4 speed, pagoda roof, red/black with AC needing a complete restoration.  Rust in drivers floor and fender well.  Bubbling at cowl under windshield but otherwise presents well. Don't mean to confuse my technical issue with this topic.

Thank you all!

Benton
