Old Photo of 1969 280 SL
« on: May 03, 2017, 15:12:58 »
My wife found this old photo of her sitting on her mom's 1969 280 SL.  Photo is probably from around 1971.

The car is still in the family (wife's sister has it now in Rhode Island).

I will try to get one.  Just have to have my sis-in-law take a photo for me.

Here is a 1972 picture of my daughter Stefania with my 1969 280SL in the background.  Many of you will have seen a cropped version of this picture in PW 19.   Instead of becoming a soccer (football) player she grew up to be a bank executive!

The Pagoda is now mine. Sadly, my Grandfather sold the 220 to his neighbor a few years before he passed. Was really bummed when I found out. That car even had the original matched luggage in the trunk!

I continue to go through my old pictures and negatives, digitizing as I go.  Slow tedious work!  Occasionally you turn up something memorable.  :)

These pictures were taken in mid-summer 1975 in Naperville, IL. As we returned home from a mid-day outing, a hailstorm came up. The kids donned their sweaters to play with the "snow".

My pagoda, then 6 years old, is in the background with the soft top up.

Just priceless items!

Ralph, what are you using to digitize the old photos?

Last summer I bought a flat bed scanner, Epson Perfection V600 Photo.  It scans 35mm slides as well as negatives and photos in various sizes and includes some enhancement software.  Not professional but good enough for my purposes.  I paid about $265 in Italy but it is much cheaper in USA.

When I have a good color print I just shoot it with my iPhone SE and enhance and crop it with the iPhone.  In fact the four shots above are iPhone shots of relatively light prints.  I need to scan them with the Epsom and enhance a bit for file.  The one below of my new 1965 Amazon (in !965) is scanned with the Epson from a color slide.

I had to jump in here and great to see these old pictures. Funny how the cars haven't aged that much :) When Jon did the Pagoda Notes Bio of my car a few years back and included some vintage photos, including my self, DW and son, I neglected to have one of the car and my daughter, my bad :-[. I Finally found one taken about 25 years ago in our driveway when we lived in So Cal.

Ralph,

Thanks for the recommendation on the scanner. I did a quick look and the ratings and such are very good.

49er,

I may be able to (somewhat) correct our oversight - in the next Pagoda Notes.

Great picture John.  These oldies are worth their weight in gold!! Be sure your daughter has a copy of this one!

I hope to find others as I continue working my collection and I will post any of interest.

She does and she always like to go for a ride when she comes to visit. Speaking of Scanners, I scanned all my old Kodachrome slides a few years back on my Epson 4180 scanner and was really pleased how they all came out. Switched over to prints in the early 80's and we are slowly working our way through them as well as coping all our old camcorder VHS/V8 tapes to DVDs. Everyone needs a hobby I guess ;D
