Taillight Assembly Question
« on: May 09, 2017, 18:32:59 »
On my '71 280SL, one of the threaded studs and the corresponding round plastic "nut" that tightens down the left taillight assembly in the trunk is missing. As a result, the lights on the driver's side are slightly dimmer, since some of the light is leaking into the trunk. Hopefully these parts are available and, if so, what are the part numbers?

I purchased metric threaded studs from a local hardware store. You should be able to purchase a corresponding nut to get you by until you find an original or purchase from MB. Good luck...John

Have a look on SLS, you can see most parts there, you can choose German or English on the site.

Thanks, Paul. The website shows the "knurled nut," but none are available.
Cheers, Marshall

hello, mgpcpa,

i rarely visit this section of the forum, see attached picture for the knurled nut i just purchased directly from local Mercedes-Benz dealer. fits my 1970 w113 280sl perfect. hope this helps a little. as you know there are 2 per side. i am fortunate that the threaded posts are still in good shape.

MGPCPA,
It could be a duff globe.
Pinch a knurled nut from the RH side and confirm that the light leaking out is definately your problem.
