Hi Mike,
A special Pagoda feature, I think! Happy Chaffe ,
I use four pieces of A4 laminated paper,. Two for the hinges, and.  Two for the. Forward parts of the compartment, this stops the chaffing and damage to the cover seal, and sort top canvas when opening and closing.

There are pictures here if you search for soft top closing, prompt me and I could post them again.

Hi Paul. Thanks for the prompt reply, the root of the problem lies in the position of the frame
its tight up against the hinge (rubbing) on one side but has a clearance of about 20mm on the opposite side

Does it fit around the windows, front frame, and rear catch ?

Everything is adjustable, it took ages to achieve a happy compromise between windows, herd top and soft top ...oh joy....

Yes it fits ok the front needs a bit of a tug (slightly out of alignment )the windows are ok and the rear clicks into the latch
quite easy .Mike.

You do not state what SL you have Mike, but if 230 SL perhaps you miss the wires each side
Soft top interior spring/wire, in German "Stoffabweiser".

I covered my hinges with soft black leather. This helps as the roof is not rubbing against rough metal.

The entire frame is secured and adjusted at its base within the soft top well. There are 2 bolts on each side. Adjustment may help but its possible the top frame is bent.
Mark the current location on the frame mounting points before you attempt an adjustment. That way you can put it back if it makes things worse.

Hi Tyler. I was thinking it might be distorted as well, I notice on the technical manual that there should be
two springs each side,  (the large one and a small one) mine just has the large one, the small one is not shown in my parts manual ?
did all 230SLs have them ,what were they for ?.Many thanks.Mike
