Odometer died
« on: June 05, 2017, 17:11:36 »
My speedo works a treat
My odometer has stopped doing it's thing - both the overall mileage and the tripmeter. I therefore have a feeling that it's an internal thing but happy to be corrected. I have twiddled the knob and reset the tripmeter to zero a couple of times - so that bit works/it's not jammed - but the speedo drive isn't driving the odo.

Any thoughts/ideas anyone? Thanks

Yep, you got it.
It's an internal thing.  Probably one of the brass gear wheels is stripped.
Needs to be taken out and checked.

The gear that drives the shaft that turns all those numbered wheels has come loose. There's a number of ways to fix this but all involve removal of the speedo and a method of fixing the gear back to the shaft. Some use super glue but I remove the shaft and knurl it a bit with vice grips so that the gear will grab on to the shaft again. This is not easy to do and all of the numbered wheels can fall out so I use another shaft that I slide through the numbered wheels as I slide the old one out.

If you think it would be too hard to do ( it is ) then I would send it out to get it rebuilt.
