Sand Gold 280 - Cross country drive
« on: October 20, 2017, 01:02:43 »
Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to share a few photos of mine and my wife's pride and joy, she has been living in Germany at the inlaws house for the last 7 years or so being babied in the garage.
We were considering buying a new car and came to the conclusion that it was a massive shame the Pagoda lives in Germany and only get to drive it two or three times a year, and that instead of buying a new car, I would drive it over from Germany to London pay for a new parking space get a cover and we could drive it whenever we wanted.
I took a few pics along the journey, will be taking some more professional looking photos soon now that we have the car with us. (Im a cinematographer)

Great decision on you and your wife's part.

It's truly beautiful and you will appreciate it so much greater now.

Can you confirm the colour? Is it Tunis Beige? (refer to the Tech Manual if you are not sure).

FYI - I recently purchased a 250SL in Tunis Beige.

Cheers

I had always considered it Sandy Beige, but now I'm not so sure, it might be Tunis Beige, it has a red interior also, I'm going to check the paperwork tomorrow when I get back to the car, I do know that it is still the original paint and has been unrestored.

I drove it today and already feel that the decision to bring it back to London is one of the best decisions we have made in a while.

You will also find the Paint Code on the 'Body and Paint Number Plate'  fixed near the LHS Sub Mounts in the Engine Bay. (see example attached)

It will either be 462H (Tunis Beige) or 467H (Sandy Beige)

To clarify a little. In the data plate that RobSirg posted, the paint codes are the three digit numbers followed by a letter. In this example 904 G which is a dark blue (904) and G for Glasurit (paint manufacturer) the H is for Herberts

Hope you are on good terms with your parking buddy in that garage. Looks pretty tight and those SL's doors are like butter.

Turns out it is indeed "Sandy Beige" 467H, as for the doors that is something that has been worrying me, until I bumped into him today, he asked waht was under the cover and when he saw it, said "oh ill park as far left as I can and be very careful" really nice guy and seemed very respectful of the car so for now im holding my hopes high. I also glued some foam to the wall on the other side so I dont bash the door into the wall by accident as well.

Now all I need to do is get over the pagoda temp quirk combined with London traffic!

Nice car!

Congratulations on moving the car to where it will be driven and appreciated.

For protection while parked in my garage, I have an old wool blanket that I fold in thirds and drape across the roof so that it hangs down the side and covers the door before I put the cover on.  Every little bit helps. :)

If the blanket slides off the hard top, just roll the window down a couple of inches and drape it over the window and down the side.

A friend who had an old Porsche and used to park in an underground garage would put his thin dust cover on the car and got some magnetic bumper strips that went on over the cover (has to be a thin cover) sticking onto the door to protect against door dings. It worked great.

Magnetic bumper strips might work well on older Porsches,
but probably less so on pagoda doors. ;-)

Truly Stunning Colour - seems a richer Gold than Tunis Beige.

Enjoy!!!

Now I wish my Tunis Beige 250SL was actually Sandy Beige!

Although, Tunis Beige is one of the rare Pagoda colours that actually has an interesting name. (As opposed to Red, Blue, Medium Blue, Dark Red, etc...)

Yes... however, M-B actually phased the name out and it became "462 beige metallic"
