I know we have something similar here on the site, however, the three models are here some in different languages ... I thought I posted it here under Advertisement for Members that have joined us in the past 2 years. Enjoy the reading :)

In the 63/64 230SL brochures there appears to be a valance beneath the front bumper. My car doesn't have a valance and this is the first time I've ever noticed one depicted in a photo. Does anyone with a 63 or 64 230SL have a valance/panel under their front bumper?

Interesting. I saw a 230SL at our local MB car show this fall, and it had this piece. There were other modifications to it that were not correct, so I assumed the valance was also a modification. The collector had spared no expense in his modifications (brand new MB V8 engine under the hood), so I thought the valance had been fabricated. Sounds like it was likely original.

That feature was there only on pre-production W113 (230SL) cars. Such cars were indeed used for the early advertising literature.
For series production, the valance was dropped (non present)

As Hans has stated, the brochures, especially the first one for a car, would use pre-production models. Some other items:  four bumpers mounted at the firewall flange (where the hood/bonnet) closes onto on the early 230 SL brochure and no hood strap.

Just need to be a bit careful when using the brochure pictures as the full-on reference document.
